Al Kasaba International Film Festival November 17–30, 2007

After the big success of Al Kasaba International Film Festival 2006, Al Kasaba Theatre and Cinematheque in Ramallah is pleased to announce its International Film Festival II, which will take place on November 17-30, 2007.

The opening film, Days of Glory, directed by Rachid Bouchareb, has won many international awards, including an Oscar nomination as best foreign-language film in 2007, and a number of awards at the Cannes Film Festival 2006.

Al Kasaba International Film Festival was organized under the tremendous political, economic, and social pressures that have become routine for the Palestinian people due to the ongoing Israeli siege and aggressive actions against them. In addition to the cultural message, the festival intends to also communicate a political message.

Cinema life in Palestine has improved and developed during recent years, and Palestinian audiences have become more interested in frequenting the events that are held by various cultural institutions and organizations. Palestinian cinema has now begun to compete in international festivals and has a relatively high profile in the cinema world. Several cinema clubs have been founded at schools and cultural centres, and many young filmmakers and directors are busy producing films.

Al Kasaba Film Festival will screen 35 recently produced feature films, documentaries, and short films that cover a range of categories, including European, Asian, and African cinema. The screening of European films has been made possible through the cooperation of a number of European representative offices to the Palestinian Authority. The screening of Asian and African films is the result of agreements that were made during Palestine’s participation in the Durban International Film Festival in South Africa. Cooperation with Med-Screen Arab Film Promotion has made possible the screening of films from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, and Palestine.

Get ready to experience an exciting two weeks with Al Kasaba International Film Festival!
